Game Description

Rogue Waters is a pirate-themed tactical turn-based rogue-lite game where you play as Captain Cutter, a pirate on a quest for revenge. You command your ship and crew through different battles and encounters, which are randomly generated in each run. Along the way, you’ll recruit and train your crew, upgrade your ship, and even call on powerful sea creatures to help you win in both naval and melee combat.

As Captain Cutter, you’ll navigate dangerous waters, face mythical sea monsters, and take on enemies while chasing legendary treasure. The story is driven by themes of loyalty and betrayal, leading to a final showdown with the immortal Captain Blackbone. Between runs, you’ll prepare in the Pirate Cave hub, where you can improve your ship and crew. Each run offers new encounters, making the game highly replayable.

Your crew is key to success. You can recruit from six different classes, each with its own special abilities. After every run, you can upgrade their skills to make them stronger. However, any damage they take carries over, so you’ll need to switch them out to heal between battles.

The world in Rogue Waters changes with every run. You’ll face a variety of enemies on land and sea, and you’ll have to choose your battles carefully. Shops are available to heal, upgrade your crew, or repair your ship, but you can also extort them for loot at the cost of starting a fight.

Naval combat involves strategic use of cannons to target key parts of enemy ships. Destroying these parts can give you an advantage before boarding. Both ships have unique buffs that can be damaged. Be careful, as your crew members can be injured or killed during these battles.

Once on board, the combat switches to a tactical, hand-to-hand style. Your crew can use their abilities to maneuver enemies into environmental hazards for extra damage. You can push enemies into spikes, grab temporary weapons, or swing into position using ropes for a strategic edge.

In addition to your crew, you can summon sea creatures like the Kraken, Mermaid, or Giant Snail to aid in battle. These creatures can crush enemies, push them around, or set deadly obstacles during the boarding phase.

Since Rogue Waters is a rogue-lite, each run resets your equipment, but you unlock permanent upgrades for your ship, crew, and Captain Cutter. This allows you to grow stronger with each run, unlocking new skill trees and upgrading your Pirate Cave hub.
